Our trail-building team includes most non-practicing geologists. I’m one of the few non-geologists, but I have been fascinated by rocks, cliffs, and mountains for a lifetime. My passion for minerals, both large and small, was passed down from my mother, who grew up on a ranch in Montana. Her flower beds were adorned with rocks she collected from her travels throughout life.
Acquiring South Fork Farm has been a dream and the perfect cure for my rock addiction. No matter how busy or exhausted I am from working the land, I can’t help but stop and pick up any rock that catches my eye. If I’m digging trails with the mini-excavator, I WILL NOT bury any rock of size or importance. Instead, I’ll use the bucket (or my hands, legs, and back) to visibly set the rock along the trail, hoping it will become useful in the future.
