The History of DH1

The DH1 trail, the brainchild of Jesse A., was built during the winter of 2023-2024. It is designed to be descended and not climbed and is thus the only one-way trail on the South Fork trail system. It begins at the low point of the top loop on the northwest side of the Cocktail Point ridge, allowing riders to combine a downhill from the top loop into the downhill trail for longer descents. After a warmup of the winding trail, it drops directly through and alongside a limestone band and features a number of features, including a steep chute, optional jumps, and a hybrid step-down drop. The first section dumps into the old bench road for a short bit before entering into the lower DH1 section, which is very flowy and fast – be careful with your speed! The trail ends at the climb trail so riders can ascend for more riding or descend back to the river bottom and parking area.

While the majority of the DH1 trail is relatively intermediate, it’s important to note that a steep chute section and an exposed bench in the middle of the trail warrant a black diamond rating. We strongly advise riders to walk the chute before attempting to ride it and, most importantly, to always ride within their limits. Your safety is our top priority.
