Good Neighbors. Good Morels.

One of the things I’m most grateful for having purchased this property in the Red River Gorge is the wonderful people I have met. The local community is filled with outstanding individuals willing to lend a helping hand or kill a few hours exchanging good stories.

These neighbors of mine are at the top of this list. Sheila and Syl took me to their secret Morell patch to help me train my eye to find these springtime easter eggs. If you have ever been mushroom hunting, it takes some time to learn how to see them. Sheila has been hunting mushrooms since she was a kid, and they seem to pop out of the woods for her. Me, I need to trip over them before I see them.

If you haven’t enjoyed fresh morels yet, get out in the woods in early March and see if you can find your secret patch.

Note: Best served lightly salted and sauteed in butter.
