I have been sketching cabin designs and dreaming about building wilderness shelters for most of my adult life. When enjoying a spring morning on the Farm during the first few weeks of the Covid shutdown, I gave it some thought and said, “why not? Let’s do this!”
I broke ground with Chester, running underground utilities up the hill, and cleared off a spot on the ridge with an excellent view of See Rocks. With the plot cleared, utilities run, and the foundation in place, all I could do was sit back and wait for my Amish friends to free up to assist in the build. They started a few weeks before Christmas, and we had it open and occupied by next April.
It was hard work but a dream come true. You can book the cabin through Airbnb or Vrbo.
