The River Deck

My family only makes it out to the farm a fraction of the time that I do, and when they do, they rarely, if ever, help out on farm projects. When COVID first hit, we spent a lot of time out there as a family, and I enjoyed every minute of it. During that time, Katie suggested a few projects. At the time, I was exhausted from all the projects I’d taken on and completed, but I couldn’t turn her down. It’s rare for her to show much interest in the farm, so I felt this could be a turning point. One of those projects was the river deck, which has been a great addition to the property. We built this 16 x 16′ deck at the top of the upper field overlooking the river to one side, and the other side provides a great view over the upper field and See Rocks (a named arch in the gorge). We finished the deck within a week or two and finished it off with a fire ring in front and notched steps into the riverbank so you could swim. We’ve eaten here, camped here, swam here, and chilled out at different times of days. It is by far my favorite place to take in the stars at night.

This was time and money well spent. Guests are welcome to use the river deck at any time. I remind them that it is a shared space and they could find other guests, although you almost always have it to yourself.
